Commando Rush is an interesting game... Lately I've been talking about games that combine elements from different genres to make one such as in 10000000. Commando Rush kind of has that aspect but not as dramatic or drastic as in 10000000, but rather combines typical run and gun arcade shooting style with somewhat of tower defense or just typical defense flash game style.

Of course the main theme you will see when you play and what will initially draw you into Commando Rush is the retro shoot 'em up arcade action. It has the crazy cluttered graphics that is indicative of that as well as the hectic amount of gun fire from both sides. However after a while you realize there is more to it. First off, depending on the gamemode, you have towers and turrets which are good for defense or protection. Secondly you can send troops out (better troops come if you wait longer before calling them) which can help you and make it so you don't do the missions solo. So really Commando Rush is a hectic combination of three different types of shooter/defense flash games and for that it is a crazy game.

Early I mentioned different game modes. Commando Rush has three different kinds. The first is basically you rush the enemy base with your troops and try to take out their turrets and overrun their base. The second type is more typical defense flash game trope. You can place towers around your base but basically the enemies come to you, not the other way around. The third mode is you need to fight your way to the enemy base to deliver a bomb to blow it up. Like the variety with the different game modes as it switches up gameplay a bit. You do have to unlock these as you go so that is kind of a bummer as well as overall the level amount is lacking. I will mention you can unlock different weapon types to take into battle although I found the balancing between them all (and in general to be honest) to be fairly weak. Overall though, Commando Rush is a good homage to the retro games of the past with a new twist on it!
