FlashMush Reviews Rating: 7.5/10
As soon as I read the title, Bearbarians, I knew I had to play this game. It also helped that it was made by Jay Armstrong (of Super Adventure Pals) and sponsored by ArmorGames. All good signs of a good flash game and I will say that Bearbarians is pretty good...and has/had the potential to be outstanding.
The idea behind Bearbarians is fairly simple, think of a fighting game like the Super Smash Brothers series with classes like Team Fortress in a flash dimension like Jay Armstrong's Ultimate Arena Extreme or a flash game like Strike Force Heroes. Of course as the name implies, in Bearbarians you play as a group or sloth of bears (of course you can change your appearance to be sharks, panda bears, walruses and more). So you get the picture; a group of bears fighting other bear-like creatures in a platformer fighting game with different classes in different game modes like capture the flag, deathmatch, etc. Which, by the way, the classes are scout, heavy, medic and mage. Each of course has pros and cons and you can probably guess what each are just based on names.
In general I really like the idea behind Bearbarians. I'm not usually a fan of these types of fighting deathmatch games but Bearbarians combines cute with cruel and is general a fun experience. However, there are some big qualms I have with Bearbarians, namely lag. Lag can ruin a game in seconds flat. I fought and played the first few levels lag free but once three teams started being introduced and just in the general chaos I found the game lagging more and more which is very frustrating. I also found the movements to not be as natural or free moving as I would have hoped and that led to a lot of accidental deaths or just general frustration. Overall though Bearbarians is a very cool game to play and I had a lot of fun with it.
