Windows 8.1 users beset by various technical woes may find some help in a newly-released update.
Served up by Microsoft on Tuesday, a new update rollup package fixes a variety of non-critical but potentially frustrating problems. The package's support page lists Netflix playback, orientation on a Lenovo ThinkPad S1 Yoga, shutdown time, and autocorrect as just a few of the subjects addressed.
The updates also are geared for Windows RT 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2. The package itself is listed as an optional update, which means you have to manually select it on your device's Windows Update screen to install it.
To install the updates, open the Charms bar and click the Settings charm. Click Change PC settings, then select the Update and recovery category and click Windows Update. Click the Check now button to retrieve all of the latest updates. Click the View details link to review them. Scroll down the screen and check the update for Windows 8.1 (KB2919394). Scroll to the top of the screen and click the Install button to install all checked updates.
In addition to the update rollup package, a slew of security patches and recommended updates also will be ready, willing, and able for installation.
