Facebook content restriction: The other aspect

BY ADITYA KUMAR SAROJ @Tech_Emperor
Read this piece of information from various websites posted on 17 March,2015.
"As per the Facebook Global Government Requests Report, India has ranked second on the list of 'content restriction requests' on Facebook with over 5832 restrictions in the second half of 2014. The number is highest than any other country in Asia.
There could be seen rise in the content restriction requests in the countries like Russia and Turkey while it has came down in Pakistan. As compared to the first half of the year 2014, the second half has seen the number of content restriction requests in Pakistan coming down to 54 from 1773.
Facebook, the social media platform revealed that in the first half of 2014, around 4960 pieces of content were blocked as requested by the Indian government. The number increased to 5832 in the second half.
India is second after United States that made 14,274 requests in the same period, thus, describing its vulnerability. Turkey with 3624 number of pieces of restricted content follows India with Germany with 60, Russia with 55 and Pakistan with 54."
Just by looking at these figures, many people are condemning Indian government as anti-democratic.But the real truth, according to me, is that the Government of India has taken good steps. The posts/comments/content that were removed were anti-social, racist or sexist. These posts must not be allowed to exist on any website, definitely not on a popular website like Facebook.
But why is the number not as high in case of other countries? The answer is simple. They hack. Other governments just hack into accounts of miscreants and delete the content or the account itself. That is one of the reasons for dramatic decrease in content restriction requests in Pakistan.
Indian government follows the rules, and 'requests' Facebook to remove some content. Ironically, this is the most democratic way to remove wrong content. Such content must be removed from Facebook or any other website, for the very sustenance of a democratic and peaceful environment.
