Put your wallets away, cheeps, and enjoy a weekend diversion that won't cost you a penny.
Through the end of May, EA is offering the classic game Plants Vs. Zombies (PC/Mac) absolutely free. Granted, it's only $4.99 the rest of the time, but I prefer to keep my five bucks whenever possible.
To get it, you'll need an Origin account (Origin is EA's Steam-like download service) and the Origin desktop client (which allows you to download and install EA games). And that's it! No other strings attached.
Also, because I know at least one person will ask, the game is yours to keep, forever. The giveawayends May 28, but the zombies will keep coming long after.
In case you're not familiar with it, PvZ is perhaps the best-known "tower defense" game of all time. It's ridiculously cute, easy to learn, and insidiously addicting.
The goal, in a nutshell: Protect your home from hordes of invading zombies. But forget the shotguns and crossbows; your weapons here are the best nature has to offer: plants! Sounds a little kooky, but, trust me: It's great fun.
And free! If you don't already own the game, here's your chance to grab it for the best possible price.
Bonus deal: Speaking of games, IceMonkey once again has the refurbished Moga Mobile Gaming System for Android for $13 shipped. It's a Bluetooth game controller for your phone ortablet. Anyone grab this last time around? If so, how do you like it?
Bonus deal No. 2: Would you spend $30 to insure your laptop against theft? Today only, BitsDuJour has LoJack for Laptops Premium (1-year license) for $29.99. Regular price: $59.99. This anti-theft service not only helps you recover your stolen system, but also promises up to $1,000 if they can't get it back. Even LoJack Standard (without the insurance) runs $39.99 per year, so this is a pretty sweet offer.
